Nice project,  I've got a 700 VSSF in 308 and had heard about  the RemAge conversion ... I'm really looking forward to seeing your range results!

Due to severe bone density issues (Ostioprosis) I can't shoot the 308, but it would make a nice 6.5 Creedmoor that I could compare to an AR I built in the same caliber ...

Here's how this rifle shoots.

Lapua new brass. Case mouth were chamfered and run thru expander mandrel.
CCI 450 primers. 5 shots each target at 100 yards.
1,2 and 3  -  Sierra MK 107gr. HPBT, Varget 30gr, .015 from the land. 0.32- 0.44" grouping
4 - Hornady 87gr. V-Max, IMR 8208 XBR 28.5gr,  .015 from the land. 0.43" grouping
5 is fouling shots.

For those wanting to build a sub 0.5" rifle without load development, I highly recommend 6mm BR Norma.

Thank you.

Also consider 6mm BR Norma. Very accurate round and I think the recoil impulse is a bit softer than my mid-length 5.56 AR and probably a lot less than a 6.5 Creedmoor.

Result of my range trip today.

New Lapua brass, CCI 450 primers, 5 shots each target at 100 yards.
1, 2 and 3 - Hornady V-Max 87gr, IMR 8208 XBR 28.5gr, .015 off the land. 0.38", 0.90" and 0.42" groupings. I don't know what I did wrong in target 2.  >:(
4, 5 and 6 - Berger FB Varmint 80gr, IMR 8208 XBR 29gr, 0.15 off the land. 0.36, 0.34 and 0.25 groupings.

A better/lighter trigger and a better shooter will most likely have a smaller and more consistent groupings.  :)
Over all, I think the results are not bad for a home assembled rifle.

Thanks for the range results ... they look great, even the the fliers in 4 & 5 weren't too bad ... were these targets shot from the internal mag or single loaded?
And as a follow up, if mag-fed, were they the first, last or just in the middle somewhere?

I realize you are shooting bolt action but ... a little story.
I noticed on a precision JP AR I built years ago that my first round never grouped with the rest of the rounds when shot from a magazine; however when I  single loaded every round they grouped tighter even though I had to break position to reload. I often wondered if it was something different in the manual close of the bolt and the other rounds  were loaded through the operation of the gun ... or if maybe I my concentration was better single fire.

I single feed my BDL style rifle for precision but I also don't like scratching my brass with the mag system. Thanks for 3 great pics. I like it!

For range shooting, single/manual feeding is more convenient for me. Just drop the cartridge into the raceway and close the bolt. Probably faster too compared to magazine fed if you include the time loading the magazine and inserting the mag to the well. But I do not know if it improves the accuracy.

In my 223 Remington 700 with AI chassis system. The 308 AICS magazine is a perfect single shot follower.
