223 carbine 527
« on: December 09, 2017, 12:46:23 PM »
Hello, anyone have one.  What shoots good for you, what bullet weight.  I just want to narrow down the amount of bullet weight I have to try. Will it shoot the 75 and 80s well or stay away from that end. We're staying the 60 grain range you know 62:3 Etc does anyone use a cheek riser thank you

My carbine does best with bullets from 50gr to 60gr in weight. I've tried some 77gr Sierra Match King loads and wasn't impressed, never was able to get a 5 shot 100 yard group under 1 1/2 inches. I've had OK results with the 69gr SMK, just over an inch at 100 yards.  If I were going to pick 1 bullet it would be the 60gr V-max, my carbine will group them around 3/4 of an inch consistently. The best groups come from a 55gr Sierra Blitz King and 52gr SMK, I get 1/2 inch 5 shot groups regularly.

As far as factory ammo I get very good results with Black Hills and with IMI ammo. The best varmint ammo I've used is Black Hills 50gr V-max and Fiocchi 40gr V-max.

Mine seems to like the heavier bullets.  55 gr were so-so.  In fact had entertained selling the rifle.  Then, got some of the Hornady Black in 75 gr.  What a difference.  3/4" groups at 100 yds.

If you're shooting surplus 55gr FMJ or 62gr "green tip" don't expect great things. Most of that type of ammo will not shoot under 2 inches at 100 yards.

Good info here. What is the twist rate on your barrels? I have the earlier carbine with a 1:12 twist, and it really likes the Fiocchi 50gr V-max. It also does fine with the American Eagle 50gr HP and the Fiocchi 40gr V-max. All three of those factory loads are consistently under an inch at 100 yards (and often better, depending on the kind of day the shooter is having).

Mine is a 1:9, I traded off an American with the 1:12 twist because I wanted to use a 60gr Nosler Partition in a light weight carbine. My daughter was 11 at the time and may 4' 8" and 80 pounds, we needed a low recoil carbine for her first deer hunt. She grew up and I kept the carbine.

with my 1:9 twist .223 527 Carbine using 55gr FMJs I was getting about 1.25in at 100yds when I had it scoped with a 3-9x Nikon

With the scope off I get about 1in at 50ys but I'd say that's more me than the rifle

I'd like to see what it could do with some 62gr FMJs or 64gr soft points
2009 CZ 452 Training Rifle .22LR
2010 CZ 75B 9mm
2012 Czechpoint VZ-58 7.62x39mm
2015 CZ 527 Carbine .223
2015 CZ P-09 9mm
2017 CZ P-07 9mm
