new CZ 27, help with ID and holster
« on: December 09, 2017, 04:31:52 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum. I recently came across a CZ 27 at local gunstore and decided to purchase it. I need some help with identifying possible production date. I tried to do some research but found a couple of details to be odd and perhaps not match typical production. I figured some of you may know a good deal and would be able to share your insight. I was able to walk out the door with the pistol, 2 mags, and holster for $378 which is probably average price. Defects include repaired grip and very lightly scratched initials on slide (don't know if photos show it), right side...possibly the guy who brought it back after the war(?)

The serial number is in 30xxx all matching which I think would normally mean early war production, but the finish is very grayed and almost appears brownish. My research shows pistols with obvious bluing from early war, pre-phosphate. Perhaps mine is simply worn. Barrel is in good shape and fairly bright inside. Another odd thing is that one of the magazines has serial numbers on it, not matching the gun...107xxx. The finish on the mag is very similar to the gun, gray/brown with CZ logo with an arrow between C and Z. Rear of mag has same stamp. The other mag appears as most others that I have seen, marked "P. Mod 27" on baseplate with more bluing.

The holster, though obviously old and somewhat musty/smelly, doesn't appear to be original to the pistol but may fit another nazi officer pistol of the era. I cannot find any photos that match the holster with whatever pistol would typically go with it.
I cannot figure out how to upload photos from my computer to post. Maybe someone could give some tips, so I can show the photos.
Thanks

From Berger, "Know Your Czechoslovakian Pistols" I would surmise that your CZ27 is from 1941.

"In early 1941, all production was diverted to the German War effort. Czechoslovakian sources put the beginning serial number of German Military production at 20500.  This serial number is very close to known vz. 27 examples.  Because of pistols in process at the time, some variations exist.

Contracts for the vz 27 pistol for the German Police began in late 1941. Production did not increase to any great extent, and by the end of 1941, still had not reached a total of more than 42,000 pistols."

In my experience of buying C&R guns, I have found that the sellers will often put anything and everything into the weapon to make it look complete and sell.  My CZ24 and CZ45 both came with the wrong magazine affecting function. My model "Z" came with the wrong recoil and firing pin springs--it also was missing the firing pin spring guide rod.

I look forward to seeing pictures as most of the war marking have been documented in the above referenced book.

If you cannot get the photos uploaded, please describe in detail the exact location, size and details of the marks.

Congratulations on getting your CZ27.

I paid $18 for about a year ago.  I don't know why some people think they can jack the price up, unless maybe they're a front for money laundering.

Yeah, I just bought a copy of the Berger on Ebay for around 20 bucks with shipping. You just have to keep your eye out.
