A firing pin block is a mechanism, found in most guns over the past 20 years or so, that won't allow the firing pin to be forced forward (through a gun drop, through a blow against the lowered hammer, etc.) unless the trigger is pulled fully to the rear.

People think that's why triggers on CZs aren't as good as they could be -- as the pre-B (which generally have great triggers) don't have firing pin blocks.

It's not so.  CZ has changed the geometry of the the hammer and sear so that the trigger has gotten worse, but it has little to do with the firing pin block.

The block adds a  little weight to the trigger pull, but if the firing pin block mechanism is polished, its almost unnoticeable.

The FPB does make it harder to properly tune the 75B guns, according to Jim Miossi, if you're trying to improve the hammer/sear geometry.
