85 slide on 75 frame, couple questions.
« on: December 31, 2017, 07:51:19 AM »
I just got my first CZ from Buds. It was listed as a fair condition 85. It has a pre b 85 slide, but the frame appear to be a 75. The frame looks to be a b series or transitional. No controls on right side. Any ideas? Is this common? Who would have used it?

Do the serial numbers match?

Barrel and frame match, no serial or date on slide.

Sounds like the slide was replaced at some point. Pics might be helpful.

I'm not sure what other info there is. It's a replacement 85 slide on a 75 frame. I don't see a date on the slide, that's interesting.

Well, if it shoots (a Pre B slide on a B model frame would have been a NO BANG unless mods were made inside the frame to remove the firing pin block lifting arm and add a spacer on the sear pin) then it may be a Pre B frame, too.

Then again, a few months back there were "CZ 85's" for sale on the internet that did not have the right side safety or slide release lever.  I remember looking at them and commenting, here, that it was a odd looking CZ 85.  If the difference between the 78 and 85 is the ambidextrous controls on the CZ 85, why would CZ make an 85 that looked just like a 75?  But then, CZ does a lot of funny things.
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.  So, if you see me walking the dogs with my SIG 556R, its okay.

Thanks for the reply. There appears to be no grinding or anything in the frame or its parts. They actually look pretty new and unworn. Couldnt get the picture to post but a 15 rounnd rapid group at 20 yards was at max 4", much better than my duty glock 22.

Just curious, since there’s no FP block in the slide, wouldn’t it work just fine without removing the lifter in the frame? Just like a Kadet kit?

I think M1A had it mixed up.

It does not have a lifter arm and no sign of machining.

As has been stated, the only thing I can think of is that it’s a replacement slide. Because I think all 85’s had ambi controls. Does look like you have a pin holding in the front sight. That’s a plus IMO, the older ones were a staked front, and not easily replaced. Not sure about the rear dovetail, lots of different sight configurations on the early 85’s IIRC.   Maybe Czech out the 85 section for more info. ?
