Question-Slamming Magazines into mag well
« on: January 12, 2018, 09:14:02 PM »
To All,

I was at the range today and shooting my brothers M&P CORE and he said check this out.  If you slam (insert firmly and fast) a loaded magazine into the mag well it will automatically release the slide. So I tried it and I was able to get it to do it.

So I grabbed my CZ85 and tried it and found out if I really shoved it hard and fast in there, it to would drop the slide. With both guns, empty mags won't do it, nor will a loaded mag when using standard force/speed to push it in the mag well.

Comments???

I wish mine did it reliably.
I got a .32 gun in my pocket for fun...

Some love it. Some don't. Usually those that don't, can't count on it happening consistently with their gun. I am one who loves it, until it doesn't happen.

Normal for a number of pistols, especially the CZ 75s.
A firm fast insert will impact the slide release and bounce the slide up slightly releasing the slide .
Try this:  With no mag and the slide locked back,  grip the pistol tightly, FIRMLY smack the bottom of the mag-well with the heel of your weak hand as if inserting a mag.  Both my CZ75s will release.  My son's Shadow will also release.

Many pistols will release with a firm tactical insert.  Some won't.
Some owners like this  and others don't
Do a search for slide release with mag insert and you can read a number of pros and cons.

Personally,  I like it for a range/action shooting competition pistol.

I personally like it, especially for fast reloads shooting competitions.  Don't really see a drawback to it, if you don't like it just don't slam the mag home.

Wish my SP01 Shadow did, would be enough to turn the tide on man vs man steel shoot.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

My biggest gripe was that it was never consistent for me. I wonder if I have to have a ?break in? period for the functionality.

It's not so much if it will do it consistently.  It's whether or not you drive it home hard enough consistently.  ;)

It's a feature, not a glitch.  ;-)

Larry/Touji,  it's not the slide release itself.  It's 3 things that stack to make it happen.
1. The pretty firm insert with a "strong" hold on the grip with the other hand.
2.   Having a full mag with a good spring helps.
3.  The pistol weight also provides some inertia to resist upward movement The slide release tightness in the frame holes also may play a small part.in how firm the insert has to be.

My experiences with my two full size  and my son's full size (SP01 Shadow)  all show slide release with the firm insert....not slammed just as listed above.  My Sig 239 only does it about 10-20% of the time.

My sp01 just started doing this recently, and I've been practicing swift tactical reloads for some time. Love it :)
My p09 was autoforwarding right out of the box

Love it to when my Canik P120 does it too. It is certainly a great feature  O0
