Things that made you nervous in the gun shop
« on: January 14, 2018, 12:06:32 AM »
Anyone have some good chuckles or Oh. My. Goodness. Experiencs? Talking about pricing shenanigans in a nother thread reminded me of a couple amusing things I have seen and 1 or 2 that have made me walk backwards from the store very carefully.

One is what I shared there 3 guys 45 minutes till closing speaking rather loudly while handing off a Henry to one another taking turns tring to Terminator 2 spin cycle the action. Just made me shake my head.

The other was more concerning for me. Like a wait, what? Why? Moment. Brother and I are browsing a shop back in VA that has wide range of products. They cater to a couple local PDs and the competitive market and have a goodly number interesting used guns and NFA stuff. Typically little on the high side.

I kneel  down to look more closely at a 9x23 (Springfield V series custom gun if I recall) when my ear took notice of two shop guys talking from behind the counter with another fellow on my side of the counter. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed his blue jean covered knees. So I turned my head to finish looking at the shelf I was interested in. Since I was squatting/kneeling my head was right level with his thigh about 6 feet away.

When I fully turned I saw he was seated on a stool left leg bent foot on the bottom ring with a cowboy thigh holster containing a big barrel pointing at my face. He didn't notice, to enthralled in a rip roaring conversation with the employees. He was one of those really animated types shaking and hands moving leg tapping. Anyway, he swiveled the chair and it sure looked like an older Colt SAA or clone. The patina was just right and to this day I don't know if some guy muzzled me with an older SA revolver with no transfer bar safety, firing pin hammer down on a full chamber or not.

I might be overthinking the old guns, I mean guys wore em on horses while riding back in the day but if this fella had turned and the hammer hit the chair back of the stool would my brains have been all over the store lol

I worked in a gun shop years ago. Right after deer season we had a young guy come in with his Marlin 30-30. He wanted to trade it for a bolt action. He handed it to the owner and I saw it was cocked. The owner dropped the lever and a live round came out. The kid had been driving around in his truck with a loaded and cocked rifle behind the seat, and brought it into the shop that way.
I seen and heard of a number of people bringing in guns to trade or sell and they didn't realize they were loaded.

I was in a gun shop right after sandy hook happened, and a small framed woman was looking in to buy a home defense gun.  I hear the guy behind the counter start talking to her about rifles.  He pulls down the only AR the have left in the store and starts talking about how this AR-10, chambered in 308, is the best option for home defense.  I loudly chuckled and said “Sure, if you want to kill your neighbor too!”  She left without purchasing the rifle and I have not been back to that shop since.

This same shop was trying to gouge people $20 for a 50 round box of 22 LR and $40 for a 30 G.I. AR Mag.
Cheers,
Dave

Hearing 1500 people racking slides and going click click click all day at a gun show is unnerving enough for me.

Store owner to gun owner: "Broken you say? So you're saying when you press the trigger like this it doesn't fire? "
Said as he pressed the trigger and promptly let one off in the store.
Thank God it happened to be a bb gun and just so happened to point it in 'a safe direction'
