Plastic bushing epoxied in place and inside diameter is set to same diameter as the shaft. Total cost for the fix was about 1 cent worth of epoxy and about 5 cents worth of plastic rod.

It is now a press fit and has no play in the base. The lever still flexes more than Id like, but this will do until I make one out of aluminum. I will sand it smooth and bevel the edges later.

You are a go-getter for sure but for the rest of us ---- HBI AK safety will fill the bill.  The idea of a press fit would concern me.  With my luck it would pop off at the most inopportune time.

Yeah, HBI is definitely the way to go.
By press fit, I just meant that I made it so it takes some effort to put it on and take it off. I drilled the small hole for the retaining screw also. No slipping off and no movement caused by loose fit.
Being plastic, I didnt want it to have ANY movement of the base which would cause it to wear. By making it tight, it shouldnt wear out before I either make one out of aluminum, or get an HBI.
To remove, I have to remove the screw and then twist it while pulling.

If it is secured by a set screw I would feel much better about it. :)

His political stance is so far left that he would have to wear a restrictor plate to run in the Indianapolis 500.
