New guy with a question
« on: March 05, 2018, 05:32:16 PM »
Hello everyone, I?m new to the site, . I currently have a 455 American 22lr an absolutely love it . I?m actually a left handed shooter but only 1 left handed rifle. So I talk to a guy at a local gun shop an ordered a 452 left hand in 17hmr . My question is, does the 17hmr shoot as good as the 22lr an what 17 hmr ammo would anyone recommend,  thanks in advance.

My wife's a leftie so I bought her a used CZ 452 American LH in .17 HMR.

We use CCI VMAX.

You'll notice a bit more pop than .22 LR.  Much better round for reaching out and touching varmints or just plinking.

In my experience the 17 HMR is a more accurate round than 22lr. Speed, type of bullet and diameter of bullet all play a part in this.

I've found .17HMR to be more accurate than .22LR.

I will qualify that statement with the comparison is for like ammo.  I am using .17gr Vmax Hornady ammo in the HMR, and I generally run CCI Standard Vel .22LR.  I'm sure I could get better accuracy if I spent the money on Wolf Match Target, Eley, etc...

For me, that would negate the purpose of .22LR, which is to cut the cost of doing all my gopher killing with .17HMR and .17HM2.
Some will die in hot pursuit in fiery auto crashes.
Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes.
Some will fall in love with life, and drink it from a fountain, that's pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain.

17HMR waaaay better than .22LR at everything except cost.

That cost is worth it.

I?ve tried a few in my Savage. Hornady all day.
Used to own a CZ Jawa...
