High Power/Hi-Power....quiet end of an icon
« on: February 09, 2018, 07:41:26 AM »
Been rumored and semi-confirmed for awhile now.

A moment of silence. From the Browning web site.

?No longer in production. The Hi-Power is one of John Moses Browning's finest designs*. And although it is possible to still find Hi-Power pistols at dealers across the U.S., the Hi-Power is technically out of production. Current dealer inventories will be the last available from Browning for the foreseable future.?

*with acknowledgement to Dieudonn? Saive (added)

Long live the High Power.

Darn shame, but it was quite a dated design. The 13 round magazine gave it the name "Hi Power", and modern pistols are sporting 16-19 round mags in duty sized sidearms, plus DA/SA and striker, but the Hi Power remains one of the nicest looking and feeling pistols ever made, classic and sleek.

If they didn't make CZ 75s I'd have a HiPower collection! Only other gun I feel real comfortable shooting.  Maybe someone will come out with an affordable clone now.

Sadly, F?G from Hungary has gone away. They had some pretty good Walther and HP clones as well as the ?hybrid? looking High Power/S&W Mod 39-59 known as either the P9R or R9 with DA/SA trigger.

The hi power and the 1911 were my first semis.  Then the wonder nines started becoming available - S&W 59 was my next buy.  Pretty much let the hi power and 1911 go.  Wish I would have kept them but being a student there wasn't much financial choice.

Thankfully these guys look pretty nice from Regent/LKCI.

I'm very interested to see one of the SS models...as well as find out if standard BHP parts will interchange?

I have an Israeli surplus HP.  The finish is so-so but everything else is tight.  I had an HP in the 70's.  Alas, it is long gone.
