Problem with a cane is that it excites the bad guy -- a vulnerable victim perhaps to target. . .

An unbreakable umbrella with a metal tip ala 'The Avengers' could be as effective as a cane - maybe more so. A large caribiner can serve as a set of brass knuckles.

A Mossberg 590 Shockwave down my pants will leave me confident. ;D ;D ;D All jokes aside before I started carrying, I welded a razor blade shiv on the inside of one of those expensive metal pens.

Tactical pen mostly. When your lizard brain kicks in you default to hammer-fists so a deep stabbing weapon is somewhat useful.

A RAndall model14 on the hip can be quite the intimidator... A Randall model 1 down the pants can be comforting.

Do they still make the Guardfather? Looks like a pen, but pops out a stainless steel spike...just don't loan out the wrong pen...

A friend used to carry a center-fire tear gas pen. I think they outlawed the style he carried because you could rig it to fire .45 cartridges...
