CZ P-01 alloy finally home.
« on: March 10, 2018, 07:06:13 PM »
Well, its finally home after FID address change and 3 new permits.
Steel framed P-01 is still at LGS, will be picked in 30 days. NJ laws...

So after playing around for 15 min, i know what i want to do, but need recommendations from you guys.

Trigger:
1. Pre-travel is too long.
2. With the way i grip the gun, trigger is too far out.
3. Lighter trigger pull on DA, would like it 6.5-7 lbs max
4. Trigger curve is not comfortable, but that might change when the distance changes.
5. Would like to keep it as HD gun.

Questions:
What parts do you guys recommend ?
Would installing different parts expose sloppiness in the trigger?

Thanks

If you plan on installing the parts your self or sending the pistol in to the shop. First thing to remember is to call Cajun Gun Works and tell them what you are trying to achieve. They know their parts better than anyone and can help size up what parts you will need to achieve your goals. They put allot of energy into their customer service, it is worth taking advantage of.

Trigger:
1. Pre-travel is too long.
SA Pre-travel can be reduced with the CGW Short Reset System. (make sure to tell them if you plan on using the Reach Reduction Kit - RRK, some of the parts in the SRS kit change)
DA pretravle can be reduced a bit with the RRK.
2. With the way i grip the gun, trigger is too far out.
CGW Reach Reduction Kit can reduce the DA at rest rigger position.
3. Lighter trigger pull on DA, would like it 6.5-7 lbs max
The DA pull weight is most significantly effected by the weight of the hammer spring. A rule of thumb for hammer spring weight reductions in a CZ75 variant is that it will deduce the DA by pounds and the SA by ounces. Internal part polishing can further reduces the DA pull weight as well as smooth it out and remove the stageness of the factory DA.
4. Trigger curve is not comfortable, but that might change when the distance changes.
Trigger swap. My personal favorite is the Original 85c trigger. There are a few different options for DA/SA replacement triggers.
5. Would like to keep it as HD gun.
Ok, but please be sure to feed it.  ;D

It has been fed already, plan on feeding every 2 weeks.

Thanks for the info.

I did take it apart today after range, and it seems like it has been polished from the manufacturer.
I do not see any major machining marks, the pool is very smooth, but very heavy.
I?m sure part of it is, because of treater reach.

After reading the forum for few month, i am surprised getting a gun that doesn?t have any
Machining marks what so every.

Maybe I?m lucky.

Hey, congratulations on your new pistol! Have you thought of thinner grips? That should help with the "trigger reach" issue you seem to have.

It is interesting to me (not criticizing or complaining) that folks rave about the CZ pistols but then "have to" spend 100's of dollars sending them out to get them to function, feel, and shoot well enough (to their liking). I've not gone that extra mile (yet) and luckily do very well with what CZ has sent me from the factory.

Enjoy that new pistol  :D

110% for Cajun Gun Works.   I never work on a gun I am going to depend on for my life or my families life. No shade tree gunsmithing is good enough for me.

A good friend of mine bought the P01 brand new and immediately sent it to CGW.  Before he could get it back and shoot it he found out he was having twins and needed to part with it. I was the lucky man who bought it. I can?t say enough about CGW and the P01. I love my 1911?s, but quickly fell in love with the CGW P01. I loved Glocks, but no longer carry them and will be selling them soon.

Here comes another question.

I?d like to get new grips. Decided on LOK rather then VZ.
The question is, which grip do i need, i also will be using it in IDPA.
Want to make sure it fits in the box.

I like G10, palm swell. Does anyone know if its good to go, or i need something else?

I ha EA a the checkered compact aluminum grips and the RRK from CGW. The reach is very short for DA and I opted for the non-short reset because my last one would double ocassionaly with the short reset because I rode the reset when shooting. I don't have that problem with the standard reset. The RRK also comes with the 85C version of the original 85 compact trigger and it feels amazing.

I too am looking at new grips because I want the palm swell back, so let me know if you want a new set of grips for less than what CZ Custom is selling them for. FWIW, look at the cool hand grips; very similar to the VZ and LOK grips, but a tiny bit cheaper and they come with new fancy screws with the grips too.

If you are not comfortable swearing at the sear cage and the associated springs (I spent 4+hours sanding, polishing, and reassembling the internals) then send it to CGW. They will charge a pretty penny for it fyi.
snakeye, no worries, I don't need someone in a leotard. :)

Received and installed CGW Ultra Light Kit.
Don?t have the scales, but feels about 4 pounds lighter.
Pretty happy, on the way to the ranger in few hours.
