Necessity of extended firing pin
« on: March 20, 2018, 09:29:26 AM »
Pistol: SP01 Shadow
Mods:
Reduced strength firing pin spring (-20%)
Extended firing pin

Main spring 11lbs
Recoil Spring 13lbs
Sport hammer

Reduced sear spring (-20%)
Reduced trigger spring (-20%).

Problem: Firing pin causes FTF (snags bullet rim) - see pic.
Question: Is the extended firing pin truly that necessary? Do some get by without it?

It shouldn't be sticking through the breechface.

None of mine do (well, neither of mine do - have them in a couple CZ 75 Compacts).

I did buy a 3rd one, for another Compact project, but the extended firing pin seemed to poke through the breech face when I pushed the rear of it (with the firing pin block in position to block it) so I didn't install it.  I assumed it was geometry thing (been using that word a lot lately...) with the size/shape of the firing pin block and the slot in the firing pin.

If you got it from CGW, give them a call and see what they say.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I would like to know where you got a reduced power sear spring please.

Yeah that shouldn't be happening.  Maybe there's some debris in the firing pin channel or something that's making it 'stick' forward.  Or maybe your firing pin retaining 'tab'/stop at the rear is somehow getting loose and misaligning the hole, not letting it retract all the way.

Does anyone know if all CZ non-blocked firing pins for the Shadow/Shadow 2/Tac Sport the same?

Bought locally, not from CGW.

EEMANN Tech sells the springs. Bought in Europe (Poland).

As for firing pin sizes, I'll try to get some measurements tonight, at least of the S1 and TS

They show and discuss measurements on the pins.

Just a suggestion:  You probably already checked,  but  pull the firing pin and spring.  Sight through the FP channel and be positive  it's spotless,  no oil or lube,  just clean.  Take a good look at the spring and double check that it fits and seats against the FP properly and that it retracts the FP easily when the FP is pushed forward.
  Hope this helps.

After double and triple checking, the extended pin actually does fit. But inserting it seems to require a certain delicate touch otherwise it hangs up somewhere and causes the jam.

However, the stock pin is firing my ammo just fine.

As for firing pin measurements; total length and length from end hammer end to ledge:
SP01 stock 6.28cm, butt 3.4mm
CZ75TS stock 6.28cm; butt 3.4mm
Shadow 2 stock 6.27mm; 3.5mm
Extended pin 6.39cm; butt 3.4mm

(better late than never :) )
