Yesterday I had the palm swells on and was double tapping. Shooting 3 sheets of notebook paper at 7 yards and keeping both shots on paper while moving left to right. Then I removed the grips entirely. The shots were closer together, more centered with some nearly touching. The only difference I can think of is more emphasis is placed on the front and rear strap. No question for me in this scenario, the thins work better.
