Tell me about your DUO

So, lately I?ve had an itch for a .25 that I?ve been wanting scratch. I think that the DUO or Model Z would scratch that itch quite nicely. In my quest to pick up one of these little mouse guns, I?ve seen a few in every condition imaginary and I am just wondering what those of you who own one think about them. I should also note that I?m looking for a shooter not something I am just going to tuck away in the safe.

I have a couple options right now. One is a Model Z in pretty good condition and the other is a DUO with substantial finish loss. The guy selling the Z wants about $275 and I think I can get the DUO for about $130. I like the DUO because it is a wartime gun, but I?m wondering if I?m getting in over my head, as the DUO is being sold online and I wouldn?t be able to handle it before purchasing it. Then again, At $130 I?m not too nervous about it.

Any thoughts on what issues to look for would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have either guns and love it or hate it, you?re feedback would be greatly appreciated.

My DUO is in stainless and works well.

My "Z" has been a source of irritation (see thread in this forum http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=89104.0).
 I got it from a pawn shop through GUNBROKER.COM (online auction).

I bought the DUO to try and figure out what was wrong with the "Z" as they are essentially the same design.

What I discovered is that the "Z" that I had bought not only had an important part missing (firing pin spring guide rod) but that some of the others parts it did have were wrong (compared to the DUO).

Thanks for the link to that other thread! We?re you ever able to obtain the parts that you needed to get the Model Z running properly?  I?m assuming that finding parts for these little guys is next to impossible.

I ordered a parts kit but have not had the time to spend on the "Z".  At the moment I'm working on my CZ 100 and Vzor 50 (just bought today).  Both have some problems that will take a while.

I picked up a DUO at a gun show along with a Colt 1908 .25. Ironically, it looks like I?m missing the recoil spring guide rod, also. Were you ever able to find a replacement part? I?ve read on a different DUO thread that it is possible to make one using a D nail. I would prefer not to have to go that route, but, it may be my only option.

I ordered a Colt 1908 firing pin guide rod and "worried" it down to the dimension given to me by czechollector who has several Z's that function.

I have not gone back to work on my Z, having gotten busy with a number of other items.  :(

I have had quite a few duo's, Z, jagas I even have the rare Z/duo model. Which I am selling if any one is interested. Over all they are great little pocket pistols. Dont use as your EDC, but when you need something small, it will work.

the firing spring guide rod is the most common missing part. After reading  Cold War Pistols of CZ by James Brown, I learned a incredibly easy fix for that. You can get a common 6d nail and cut it to desired length. Works great and is super cheap!
